NIKON D40, please help accessories?!?

I have the Nikon D40 and i was wondering what type of photoshop, and accessories work well with it?

I like the Picasa2 editing software. As for accessories, start off with the 18-135mm lens for most jobs and add some marco lenses for extreme close-ups.

I'm finally upgrading to a dSLR and I'm thinking of buying a Nikon D40.

Here's what I'm thinking of buying:

Price looks good.

The lenses are great, especially the 55-200 VR.

Throw in the SB-600 flash and a StoFen Omni Bounce (a diffuser which fits on the flash) and you're on your way to pro-quality shots.

I’ll be getting a Nikon D40 soon from best buy, I cant afford a d60 or 80 so please dont suggest them. Besides I think that the lens matters the most so I plan to get a lens later on down the road when I save up and I’m more familiar with the camera. What lens would you recommend thats better than the one the D40 comes with, yet not ridiculous in price? Also are there any accessories that you would recommend getting with it?

I have to agree with edwin. Find out what type of phtography enjoy doing before you just runout and buy stuff. The kit lens is a good solid lens and if you do not mind changing lenses the 70 – 300 is a great lens to have in addition. You do want a Uv or sylight filter on the camera as its always better to scratch or break a 30 dollar filter than several hundred dollars of lens. the 18-200 lens mentioned is a wonderful lens and if you want to put a single lens on and almost never have to change it thats a good choice as well.

Other things you will probably want not far down the road a good speedlight and a tripod or monopod

Does the Nikon ML-L3 Remote Transmitter work with the Nikon D40 SLR?

on ritzcamera.com they have it listed as an accessory for the D40 but on amazon.com they have it listed saying its for the Nikon D50 & D70. Does anyone know for sure if its compatible for the Nikon D40?

It sure does. I own one for my d40 and its a great add on. Very handy for night and studio shots. Probably one of the best additions to your camera for $20. My guess, though I don't know for sure is the reason that the D40 isn't always listed with the remote is because the remote came out before the camera. This remote will definatly work (just remember to go into your settings and turn it to the remote setting). Good Luck and have fun with it.

just looking for a nikon d40 body online with all the necessary accessories but lenses aren't important. if you know a good website that has cheap prices and isn't some sort of scam please let me know. referbs are fine as well. yahoo and froogle have been giving me scam shops and bait and switch places so if you have a reliable source it would be greatly appreciated!

If you're looking for a new D40 you will find most reputable dealers within about $50.00 of each other. Most dealers are packaging a kit lens with new D40's, so you may have some difficulty finding a new D40 body by itself.

If you're looking for a used body, I would recommend KEH. They have a good rating system for their used equipment, plus they do offer a limited waranty on their used equipment and they do have a reasonable return policy.

I have also bought a lot of new equipment through Amazon.com without any problems. I usually do some checking with on-line dealers such as Adorama, B&H, or Beach Camera to check prices.
