This is my third Unboxing video and this time its my first Digital SLR camera, the Nikon D40 and the Nikkor 18-55mm VR lens. It is a very good beginner/amateur DSLR, has tons of features and is very easy to use. The Help menu is a blessing to every beginner!!!
Sorry about my poor voice; after a hard day’s work my energy meter was a bit low. I would really appreciate if you could limit your comments to the camera/lens.. Any positive or constructive criticism is also appreciated.

Me and my Sigma Camera Lens

I have a Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 EX DC Macro HSM which i just bought last week and to tell anyone honestly I liked it a lot. I mainly used this camera lens as a standard zoom for my Nikon D40 because it covers all focal lengths I usually use for indoor shooting. Also it provides faster aperture available for DSLR zooms, which is an absolute must for shallower depth-of-field portraits and low-light photography.

So before I go into any deeper I need to explain first what is the full feature and advantages of my new Sigma Camera lens.

Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 EX DC Macro HSM has a large aperture zoom lens designed especially for use with digital SLR cameras with minimum focusing distance of 20cm (7.9”). The lens is especially designed to suit the characteristics of digital SLR cameras and provides a high level of optical performance. Nikon D40 (lens kit) better then Sony Alpha?

Yesterday I took some photo's with the Sony Alpha 100 (17-80 lense) and I really LOVED it! I took so many beautiful shots with the standart settings and still some great shots came out. The light, the contrast, the colors…. everything was perfect.

First I planned to but the Sony Alpha 200 (with the 17-80) kit, but the Nikon D40 lens kit turned out cheaper.

So my question is:

Is the Nikon D40 (lens kit) BETTER then the Sony Alpha 100 (with the 17-80)? Because I would like to buy the Nikon D40, but I took some shots with the Sony Alpha 100 and they were awesome!

No. I only did some shots with the Sony Aplha 100.
So, if I buy the D40, I won't regret it?

It is far better than the Sony system, but that is not necessarily the reason to buy the Nikon

On the practical aspects of choosing a camera, the Nikon system has lenses that will work on most of their cameras bodies … since 1959.

Sony bought the old Minolta line and lenses older than about 20 year old, will not work, whether in manual or auto modes

i bought a Opteka High Definition² .35x Ultra Wide Angle Fisheye lens off of ebay for my nikon d40, and i don’t know how to attach it ): how do i do it?

The Opteka .35mm fish eye is an attachment lens. This means that it doesn't go directly onto the camera body, but you have to screw it onto the front of your existing lens.

All Nikon lenses have a screw thread at the front, which is mainly there to attach filters, but you could also use it for this Opteka lens… if you ordered the Opteka in the right size.

A quick check at Amazon reveals that Opteka makes this fish eye in over a dozen versions, each with a different size screw mount. And it's not like every Nikon lens requires the same size – Nikon lenses all have a different size screw filter, too. But if you matched them up just right when you placed the order, it should fit perfectly.

Nikon d40 being compared to Nikon d70 Nikon d200 and Leica M7. This was done to show how small the Nikon d40 is compared to other cameras. This also shows the D40 with the Nikon 18-200mm Vr lens which is hard to find on the internet so I put some pics on. There is also plenty of room for your fingers with this lens which has been a concern with such a small camera but i have found it fine.
