How do you set a Nikon D40’s screen to show what it is seeing live?

My friend has a Nikon D40 SLR camera and we cannot figure out how to get the screen to show what you are about to take. i.e: how to make it so that you don’t have to "ALWAYS" use the viewfinder to take a good photo. Can anyone please help?

Unfortunately, you can’t see through the screen on that camera :/ you just have to use the viewfinder

That feature is called "live view." The D40 doesn’t have it. You aren’t missing out on much; most people who have live view on their DSLRs do not use it very often.
