If I were you a D40 wouldn’t be too great (considering it only has 6.1) megapixels. Try investing in a D3000 fom Nikon.

@Sophie: I think the Nikon D40 makes a good beginner camera, and megapixels really don’t matter unless you’re going to be making huge prints. Otherwise, it’s a good camera and doesn’t cost as much as other entry-level DSLRs.

Actually some people think the D40 is better than the D3000. The D40 has been discontinued but is now selling for more than it did when it was in production. If you can get a D40 cheaper than you can a D3000, I’d buy it. The D40 is a good entry level DSLR. Wouldn’t mind having one myself !
